2012 - A year to look forward to

The Newcastle Chamber of Commerce and Industry would like to wish all our members, and the community of Newcastle, a very successful and prosperous 2012, and we hope that this year will be a great year for everybody.

2012 promises to be a very eventful year for the Chamber, we will be having our AGM in February, details will be provided shortly.

We have also planned for two golf days this year, 19 May and 29 September, so please diarise these dates, come and show your support!!

Chamber Networking Evening - 19 October 2011

The Newcastle Chamber hosted a networking evening for its members on Wednesday 19 October 2011.
New members who attended were given the opportunity to introduce themselves to the members.
Greta Bosiers from Computer Skills for Africa gave a brief presentaion of the series of "Emerging Entrepreneurs Workshops" which will kick off in the near future.

PRESS RELEASE regarding the closure of Hardwick Street and the impact it had on business

The Newcastle Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently met with its members and spoke to some businesses regarding the closure of Hardwick street for the past two months, and how this has impacted businesses.

Trevor Smith Sports said that in their type of business, it has definitely had a negative impact. Walk-in business has been significantly slower as people are not prepared to drive all the way across town and spend so much extra time in traffic.

Annual General Meeting - 23 March 2011

The Chamber Annual General Meeting was held on Wednesday evening 23 March 2011, where members and the public were invited to discuss the Chamber business of the past year, including financial statements, Election of the Executive committee and appointment of auditors.

John McGregor was elected as Chamber President for 2011, and 2 EXCO members stepped down and Greta Bosiers was elected back onto the EXCO.

Lee Oosthuizen & Smith were appointed as auditors for the Chamber.

Business Directory Launch - 2 February 2011

The Newcastle Chamber of Commerce & Industry launched the 2011 edition of the business directory at a cheese and wine evening that was held on 2 February 2011, hosted by the Newcastle Advertiser. The guest speaker was Mr Clive Coetzee, an economist from the KZN Treasury Department, who shared some key points and attributes in the economy.

Advertiser's George Meyer also gave a brief insight into Newcastle's local newspaper, also explaining and demonstrating how the printing is done.

Thank you to the Advertiser for hosting this function, may this be the first of many more for the year!!

President's Message 2011

Business confidence in South Africa has shown continued improvements since the beginning of 2010. The BCI (supplied by the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry) seems likely to continue increasing over the short term.

SABS Presentation - 29 March 2010

The Black Rock Casino, Entertainment & Hotel recently hosted a Networking and Breakfast session for the SABS.  Dr Sadhvir Bissoon, Manager of SABS - KZN Region, was there to give an overview of the SABS - What it does, what it all entails, it's functions and processes, etc.  It was a very insightful presentation, followed by a brief questions and answers session, and ended off with a lovely breakfast, prepared by Black Rock. Conatact the Newcastle Chamber's office for an overview of the presentation.

AGM - 24 March 2010

The Annual General Meeting was held on 24 March at the Casino.  John McGregor, from Black Rock Casino, Entertainment and Hotel, was elected as the new Chamber President.  He will be supported by two vice-presidents - Bernice Clark, owner of Anchor Nursery, and Graeme Altenkirk, Branch manager of FNB - Newcastle.  A new Executive Committee was also elected.  Outgoing Chamber President, Selby Sithole, spoke briefly about the events and successes from the past year, and hopes for the Chamber to grow from one strength to another in the years to come.
